The Vina Jelenič Winery
We climb up to Jablance, where in front of the mighty Jelenič vineyard cottage we just clink glasses, greeting us on a barrel, along with cheesecake with crackles, and we get dizzy already – all thanks to the view. From here, where Jelenič’s vines on the northern slope of Zavoda bathe in the sun from five in the morning to ten in the evening, while undulating on the southern slope of Mohor down towards Krško polje, the view reaches far, even all the way to Mount Triglav. We go down to a 160 year old cellar under the cottage because Marjan Jelenič invites us to grab a snack, but then we taste wines out of barrels for several hours, as the Jelenič wines come “in the wonderful colours of Dolenjska”, and we continue to grab bites, because this is just “simple food from our farm, always eaten by diggers and harvesters in the vineyard”.
Why visit Vina Jelenič?
To find out why the cottage walls are covered with so many certificates! Because they show that tasting these Jelenič wine colours, from Cviček’s lively pink to rumeni plavec’s (Plavez gelber) orange to the champion Blue Franconian, is a gift of nature, which eight generations of soft Jelenič souls have cherished with care, love, know-how and heartiness!
